Michael Johnson, nick-named MJ, is the lead homicide detective in charge of an elite team of investigators assigned to the western edge of Lake Michigan in Chicago. When a curious series of murders wreaks havoc on the UIC’s more affluent female students, a young woman is found dead in her apartment, and MJ and his team come to the scene to investigate. But they're not expecting what they find. The victim's walls are covered in blood which makes for a gruesome scene. And, after a second and third killing, which resembles the first, Michael and his partner, FBI Agent Chrystal O’Malley believe without a doubt that it's the work of a serial killer that the media have dubbed The Butcher. With no solid leads and few suspects, can MJ and his team catch the killer before more people die?
